Moreton in Marsh, a Cotswolds market town

Moreton-in-Marsh is one of the principal market towns in the northern Cotswolds. In the thirteenth century it developed as a market town and was granted its market charter in 1227. There is still a bustling market every Tuesday with up to 200 stalls attracting visitors from far and wide. Moreton has been a traveller's town for at least 1700 years so there are plenty of pubs, tea shops, restaurants and hotels to provide refreshments!!

Many of the old buildings along the High Street date from the 17th and 18th centuries. King Charles l is said to have stayed at The White Hart Hotel in 1644. Moreton-in-Marsh was founded on the Roman Fosse Way, later the traditional London to Worcester coaching route via Broadway. When you have finished exploring the town you may want to look at more of this beautiful part of the English countryside.
